Sunday Lunch At Schloss Johannisberg

You have seen this pavement before, right?
Now you know where that picture was taken.

Like I told you last Sunday, we took my mother to Schloss Johannisberg for Sunday lunch. I have only tasted the selection of local specialities there, but I can highly recommend it for a light snack to enjoy with a glass (or three) of local wine. We now shared two servings between my mother, Herr Well, Fräulein and me. Also the desserts in the table next to us looked delicious. You can find the menu *here*.

Schloss Johannisberg is a vineyard in the Rheingau wine area, about 25km from Wiesbaden. This vineyard was the first in the world to plant only Riesling (in 1720).

Lunch at Schloss Biebrich

The weekend weather here in Wiesbaden was better than anyone could hope for: +17°C and sunny. And its November!

To celebrate the warm weekend we went to Schloss Biebrich for lunch. The palace (built in 1702) is located in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, so the surroundings are very beautiful. I have heard that there should also be a five-star playground for kids in the Schloss park, but unfortunately we did not have time to explore that one.

In the Schloss restaurant we took a table from the courtyard, as it would be a crime to waste this kind of weather inside. For lunch were ordered Flammkuchen. The day's special was with Prosciutto, rucola and tomatoes. It tasted great, but it is difficult to say, was it because of the quality of the food or because it was so sunny and warm...

Friday Night Sushi

Last Friday we had some friends visiting us from Finland. To show the guests our city (and because I'm quite lazy), we decided to go out for dinner. As one of the guests does not eat red meat, schnitzel and bratwurst were out of the question. So, we thought we would check out the new sushi place on Taunusstraße, Okinii.

I'm not a sushi expert, so all I can say that the food was really good and on the menu there were some dishes I haven't seen in some of the other sushi restaurants. Okini is a "all-you-can-eat" restaurant, so at dinner time you pay 24.90€ and you can eat as much sushi as you like. Being used to the German restaurant prices, this seemed to be quite expensive, but for a Finn it seemed reasonable enough for a good sushi dinner.

In the restaurant, you are allowed to order max. five items per person at a time, and after you have finished those, you can order the second round of max. 5 items, and so forth. To avoid waste, you must pay extra 1-2€ for each item you haven't eaten at the end of the dinner. But what was the most interesting thing in the restaurant was that you make your orders yourself with an iPad! It worked really well in this type of restaurant, where you order many small dishes.

I would say we really did enjoy the evening and the dinner. Unfortunately our smallest companion did not like to sit in her high-chair for many hours, so she gave us some exercise between the dishes...
